Here, you can see a clear visual comparison between the previous UI design and the newly redesigned interface. While the original layout was simple and effective for its time, it was long overdue for a modern refresh as both my technical skills and overall brand identity have continued to evolve. In design, simplicity can often be powerful — but there comes a point where minimalism can begin to limit functionality and user experience.

One of the largest shortcomings of the previous design was the lack of a dedicated navigation menu. The logo positioned at the top of the page served as the only method of returning to the homepage, which some users found confusing and unintuitive. With the redesigned interface, navigation is now streamlined and immediately accessible through a consistent navigation bar featured across every page, creating a much clearer and more user-friendly browsing experience.

The original highlights section was a strong concept, but ultimately felt incomplete in execution. My intention was to showcase featured artwork, while also creating space to spotlight my newest and most relevant projects. This led to the addition of the newly implemented “Spotlight” section, allowing for a more refined balance between featured content and my recent work.

I chose to retain the overall app-style design while implementing a refined and more user-friendly approach. In the original iteration, users were required to hover over each icon in order to identify what section it represented. While visually clean, this created unnecessary interaction and slowed navigation. With the updated design, each app is now clearly labeled, allowing users to instantly recognize and access the section they want without needing to hover over individual icons. This adjustment improves both usability and accessibility while maintaining the aesthetic style of the original concept.

Additionally, I integrated the “About” section directly onto the homepage. Rather than keeping it isolated as a separate page, placing it on the front page creates a more cohesive experience and allows visitors to immediately learn more about both myself and the brand without unnecessary navigation.

Lastly, the footer has been redesigned to serve a more functional purpose within the overall user experience. Rather than acting solely as a space to showcase artwork, it now also incorporates an integrated navigation system, providing users with an additional, easily accessible way to move throughout the site. This enhancement improves overall usability while still maintaining the visual identity and creative presentation of the brand.

Here, you can see a clear visual comparison between the previous and the newly redesigned illustration page, and on hover the automotive subcategory page. Similar to the original homepage layout, the previous version required users to hover over each individual button or tab in order to determine which category it represented. While functional, this approach lacked clarity and could make navigation feel less intuitive. The redesigned interface now clearly labels each section, creating a cleaner and more straightforward browsing experience.

The updated automotive page — along with other similar sections throughout the site — now includes a dedicated category navigation area. This allows users to move seamlessly between related sections without needing to repeatedly return to the previous page, resulting in a smoother and more efficient user experience.

Another major improvement comes in the form of the gallery system. The previous design utilized a horizontal sliding gallery, which some users did not immediately recognize as interactive or scrollable content. To improve visibility and usability, the redesign now features a full-page vertical gallery layout that presents artwork in a much more natural and accessible way as most people would identify with their everyday social media apps ie. Instagram.

Additionally, each page now includes a convenient “Top” button at the bottom, allowing users to quickly return to the top of the page with ease.
